Schmidt and Cohen vs. Lanier

In The New Digital Age Schmidt and Cohen discussed the business and economic effects of increases in technology. The new innovations have resulted in higher global productivity and a better quality of life as a whole. According to the authors this better quality of life comes with more free time to do as we please. However, Lanier believes that technology and gadgets are extensions of individuals and the more that technology evolves the better our lives get. I have the same views as Lanier, especially when he refers to each individuals technology helping to define them as a person. People who use Apple products are viewed as being similar, which is like people who have a Droid being viewed as a different type of person, and in each case the individual is helped defined by the technologies they use.
